How can a child benefit from joining a Scout Group?
As your child partakes in the scouting experience, you should be able to observe the effects it has had on their growth and development.
Through Scouting, parents have reported increased self-confidence, responsibility, and social networking for their children. In addition, Scouting has been shown to improve social skills and help people become more self-sufficient. It also allows people to do things that they might not have been able to do otherwise.
Many parents say that their child has made their family life easier because of Scouting. They also say their child is more pleasant to be around.
Is Scouts a religious organisation?
The Scout Association is an organization that promotes inclusivity and operates in accordance with shared values. We welcome both adults and young people of all religious backgrounds to join us in upholding our principles of integrity, respect, care, belief and cooperation, including humanists and atheists.
Our program places a large emphasis on spiritual growth and the exploration of different religious, philosophical and ethical beliefs. To reflect our members’ different ages, beliefs, and nationalities, we have a variety of versions of our Promise that our members can choose from.
If we’re moving to a new area, can my child transfer to a new group?
If you are planning to move, moving your child to a local scout group can be a great way for them to get to know their new environment and establish a social circle. It is recommended that you inform the existing leader of your upcoming move as soon as possible.
Once you have determined your destination, you may reach out to the local Group for further information.
The Scout Information Centre can be reached by telephone on 0845 300 1818 and can assist you in making contact with a Group in your new area.
For those moving abroad, the Information Centre will be able to provide details of the Scouting organisation in that country.
What does it cost for my child to attend Scouts?
The costs associated with attendance of meetings vary on a local, group and unit basis. We charge £30 every 3 months to cover general running costs such as rent, insurances, badges equipment etc.
Trips, camps, and other activities that occur outside the primary meeting place are usually charged separately and on an as-needed basis.
Scouting offers a comprehensive and cost-effective way to acquire a broad range of skills. We want to ensure that financial constraints do not impede anyone’s ability to participate.
Are leaders reference checked to ensure the safety of all children?
All potential leaders are subjected to a rigorous assessment procedure, including a thorough Police Records (DBS) Check, an interview panel, and two personal references. Our stringent safety and risk management policy stipulates that there must always be two registered leaders present with any group of minors. Leaders are thoroughly trained in risk management and their Duty of Care during the onboarding process.
Are there planned activities for Scouts?
Scouting provides an educational program in addition to its fun activities. Each group or unit can have different activities, but the primary focus is on outdoor and adventure, skills and world. Leaders are equipped with the knowledge and skills to plan and implement the program.
Is there a Scout uniform, and where can I buy it?
Scouts are required to wear a uniform specific to their age range. All Scouts, regardless of age, are expected to wear a scarf or necker of a designated colour, depending on their group. Uniforms can be purchased from Scout Stores or district scout shops; additional information may be provided by the adults in the child’s unit.
